Samsung accelerates construction of its factory in Tyler, Texas, and ASML team assists in EUV installation

In July 2025, Samsung signed an order with Tesla worth approximately US$16.5 billion. According to the agreement between the two parties, the factory in Tyler, Texas, USA will produce Tesla's next-generation AI6 chips under this agreement, which also restarts Samsung's suspended plan to build a new wafer factory.

In fact, last month Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Samsung would share orders for AI5 chips with TSMC, producing them respectively at Samsung's Tyler City factory and TSMC's factory in Phoenix, Arizona, which also forced Samsung to speed up the construction of the project.

According to foreign media Wccftech, ASML, a major Dutch exposure machine manufacturer, is forming a team to further help Samsung install equipment at the Taylor factory to support the subsequent startup and operation of EUV exposure machines, and is currently recruiting relevant engineers. According to market sources, ASML's actions represent that the Taylor City factory is getting closer to entering the actual operation stage.

Although Samsung's Taylor City factory is accelerating construction, Tesla seems to have slowed down a bit. Recently, Elon Musk said that samples of AI5 chips will be sent in 2025, and there will also be a small amount of shipments. However, mass production is not expected to be realized until 2027, which is later than the original plan of 2026. As for the next generation AI6 chip, it will use the same wafer factory to provide AI6 chips with twice the performance of AI5 chips. The target is mass production in mid-2028.

Despite the uncertainty in the timetable for Tesla’s chip plan, Samsung has not slowed down and even hopes that the Taylor City factory can install equipment in advance so that it can be put into operation as soon as possible.
