"Don t take the initiative to develop self-developed chips!" Arm emphasizes that it all depends on the needs of partners and has not seen an AI bubble.
Drew Henry, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Ecosystem of Arm, came to Taiwan for an interview today (5th). When asked about the issue of self-developed chips, he said that Arm has been cooperating with customers in chip development and design. The service targets include world-class chip manufacturers and customers with limited technical capabilities. He emphasized that "we will not take the initiative to develop our own chips. All actions are based on the needs of partners."
Henry pointed out that Arm’s customers include major chip manufacturers and companies with relatively limited technical capabilities. The former Arm will provide software end and computing architecture support, while the latter will provide more production and design assistance. As chip manufacturing processes become more and more complex, Arm also maintains close cooperation with leading manufacturers such as TSMC to ensure that newly developed technology platforms can be optimized on the Arm architecture.
Henry said that in the past decade, he has observed that more and more large companies such as AWS and Tesla have begun to design their own chips, and Arm has played an assistive role in supporting them to build their own chips to meet their specific needs. He emphasized, "We will not take the initiative to develop our own chips. All actions are based on the needs of our partners. However, our professional experience in the field of chip design and optimization allows us to continue to provide extensive support to help partners achieve the best results on AI and various computing platforms."
Talking about whether we see an AI bubble? Henry answered that he currently sees more demand for AI. AI can greatly improve medical care. In the next ten years, disease treatments will be better, new drugs will be developed faster, and progress will be faster with the help of AI. In the past, bubbles were caused by insufficient utilization of energy, which easily formed bubbles. However, in the AI era, production capacity will be used after it is released, because people in all units and fields hope to use this to enhance productivity and find better innovations.
As for NVIDIA’s investment in Intel, Henry is happy to see this happen. He believes that only by working together and improving the status of the entire ecosystem will the manufacturing and technology side continue to develop. Arm will also work closely with Intel and is not worried about market competition, because the market has now proven with orders that the Arm architecture is the best computing platform.
Henry said that Taiwan occupies an important position in the current technological era, especially in the construction of the software development ecosystem, where Arm plays a key role. Artificial intelligence (AI) has become the focus of great attention around the world, and many computing platforms are built on the Arm architecture, making it an important foundation for the development of AI.
According to research reports, the annual growth rate of global GDP is about 3%. With the help of AI, the global GDP growth rate is expected to double in the future, reaching 6%, 7%, or even 10%. Why can AI significantly boost GDP growth? Henry said that the reason is that various AI applications are rapidly being implemented. Arm itself is also actively using its own platform to develop more AI tools to assist partners in building AI solutions.
