Tesla s new FSD chips are in power, AI5/HW5 N3P process is launched in 2026

Foreign media NotATeslaApp reports that Tesla's AI5/HW5 next-generation FSD (fully automatic driving) chips have entered the mass production stage and are manufactured by NTION.

The next generation of Tesla AI5 / HW5 FSD chip numbers are known to have computing performance of 2,000~2,500TOPS (mega-operation per second), which is five times the current HW4 (about 500TOPS) chip, and can support more complex supervised FSD algorithms. The NVIDIA RTX5080 and RTX5090 (about $1,500 and $3,000 respectively) have computing performance of 1,800TOPS and 3,400TOPS.

AI5 / HW5 foundry, Taiwan Power is still Tesla's first choice. The HW5 chip is made of 3 nanometer N3P. Samsung is a reserve foundry manufacturer and will only be enabled when Tesla mass-produces HW5 models in 2026.

Tesla will gradually improve the FSD function of AI5/AI6 to make it safer and will not upgrade old models simultaneously. Only when a car cannot operate safer than humans, unsupervised FSD will it be upgraded. Even if new cars perform better and have higher safety, it does not mean that old hardware cannot drive safely.

In addition to chips, Tesla plans to equip the AI5/HW5 hardware kit with an upgraded version of the FSD lens. Samsung anti-weather lenses will have built-in heat-added components for direct lenses, which can melt ice and snow in one minute and reduce image deformation. Tesla started Robotaxi trials on the 21st, and invested 12 Model Ys to test automatic driving.
