The Sun: Gerrard becomes a candidate for Middlesbrough coach, the club will not rush to make a decision

"The Sun" reported that Gerrard, Gary O'Neill and Coberan have become one of the candidates for Middlesbrough's new coach.
Middlesbrough coach Rob Edwards has agreed to sign a three-year contract with Wolves, and Wolves will pay Middlesbrough £3 million in compensation. Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson and the senior management are determined to take things in stride to ensure they find the right person to lead the club's push for promotion.
Gibson held talks with director of football Kieran Scott and other senior figures at the club last weekend to begin formulating a plan of action. The Sun understands there will be no rush to find a direct replacement and an appointment is more likely to be made early next week.
The 45-year-old Gerrard has not coached in England since being fired by Aston Villa in October 2022. He had previously led the Glasgow Rangers to win the Scottish League Championship.
At the same time, Gary O'Neill was Wolves' original choice before considering Edwards. He once led Bournemouth to successfully avoid relegation, and like Gerrard, he is still a free agent and Middlesbrough does not need to pay compensation.
Coberan is currently coaching his hometown team Valencia and is under tremendous pressure. Bielsa's deputy at Leeds United later led Huddersfield and West Brom to the Championship promotion play-offs before returning to his home country to coach.
