Bringing a pet dog to a hotel causes disputes

A few days ago, Ms. Zhang came to Shijiazhuang from Beijing for business and wanted to bring her pet dog to a hotel. According to hotel regulations, pets cannot be brought into the guest room, so Ms. Zhang handed her dog over to the hotel staff, placed it in a pet care facility set up by the hotel, and then went out to do errands. When Ms. Zhang returned to the hotel 4 hours later, she found that her dog was vomiting and hurriedly took her to the pet hospital for examination. Afterwards, Ms. Zhang no longer believed in the hotel’s foster care facility and secretly took her pet dog back to her room. After the hotel staff discovered this, communication between the two parties failed and a verbal conflict occurred. Ms. Zhang requested to call the police.

The police arrived at the scene and conducted mediation. Ms. Zhang agreed to take the dog out of the room and temporarily send it to a friend's house for foster care.

Can pet dogs stay in the hotel?

Can pet dogs stay in the hotel? According to statistics from a travel website, there are currently only about 300 hotels and inns in China that allow pets, and most well-known hotels currently do not allow pets. At present, the areas with the greatest demand for pets staying in hotels across the country are mainly in cities such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Xi'an.

According to the voting results on this website, 75% of netizens believe that pets can be allowed in hotels, 15.9% of netizens believe that pets should not be allowed, and 9.1% of netizens think it does not matter. The main reasons for opponents are that they are worried that pets staying in hotels are unhygienic, will affect the rest of other guests, and will frighten the elderly and children.

The reporter learned that when traveling with pets and needing to check into a hotel, there are currently two methods to solve the problem: some high-end hotels will have pet management departments that can take care of customers' pets; if the hotel does not meet the conditions, customers can leave their pets to nearby pet care places for temporary care before check-in.

Hotels should strictly manage pets

Previously, Zhang Guangrui, honorary director of the Tourism Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, once said that urban families in Western countries have kept pets for a long time. As a service industry, the hotel industry began to focus on the provision of this social service at least 30 years ago. Some people want to travel with pets, so some hotels and hotels allow guests to bring pets to stay with them, or provide special services for guests with pets. However, very few urban business hotels allow guests to bring pets. And no matter what kind of hotel, if guests are allowed to bring pets, they will have strict requirements for the pets brought by the guests, including the pet's registration certificate, species, quarantine and activity range, etc., all of which will be determined at the time of booking. Generally speaking, pets are absolutely not allowed in hotel restaurants, bars and other places, and the hotel will take strict measures to ensure that the rights of other guests are not infringed.
