Small science about pancreatitis in dogs

Recently, some friends who raise dogs came to ask the left, will the dog also have pancreatitis? What are the main symptoms of pancreatitis? Why do dogs get pancreatitis? How to prevent and treat it? Let’s talk about this topic today.

Symptoms of pancreatitis

Panitary pancreatitis mainly has the following common symptoms: loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain (slump creeping movements), etc. In severe cases, symptoms such as bile duct obstruction and shock will occur.

Diagnosis of pancreatitis

Digestation of symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea in dogs does not necessarily mean that they have pancreatitis, so they can generally be diagnosed through palpation, pancreatitis plate measurement, abdominal B-ultrasound, etc. The most accurate examination at present is cPL pancreatitis plate measurement. As shown in the figure below, the blue one on the left is called the reference point. The right is detected. The point of Figure

is shallower than Figure A, which means that it has not yet reached the level of pancreatitis. The color of

B is darker than that of graphic A, which means that pancreatitis has occurred.

Principle of the working of the pancreas

Let's first look at the location of the pancreas. The pancreas is connected to the duodenum. After eating food, the dog enters the stomach, it is called food. After coming out of the stomach, it passes through the duodenum, which becomes chyme.

When chyme passes through the duodenum, the pancreas secretes pancreatic enzyme to decompose it; without the supplement of pancreatic enzyme, the intestine cannot decompose chyme. The green part of the picture below is the pancreas.

Under normal circumstances, after the dog eats food, the food enters the duodenum from the stomach. At this time, the food has been converted into chyme. When the chyme passes through the duodenum, the pancreas secretes pancreatic enzyme to initially decompose the food. If pancreatic enzyme is not supplemented, the chyme will not be decomposed.

The factors inducing pancreatitis

※Irregular feeding (overeating, suddenly changing food) is the main reason.

※Obacteria (can cause chronic pancreatitis, which is more troublesome than acute pancreatitis).

※Vomiting (frequent vomiting can induce pancreatitis).

The causes of primary pancreatitis are mostly caused by improper diet. Once the food the dog eats suddenly changes, especially high-fat foods, the amount of chyme suddenly increases, causing the pancreas to overload and secrete pancreatic enzymes desperately, and eventually decompose the pancreas itself, leading to disease.

The role of pancreatic enzyme

The main function of pancreatic enzyme is to help digestion. Trypsin can convert proteins into peptones, pancreatic amylase can convert starch into dextrin and sugar, and pancreatic lipase can decompose fat into glycerol and fatty acids. Digested starch, protein and fat in intestinal fluid, thereby promoting digestion and increasing appetite.

How to recuperate and repair pancreatitis?

⊙In hospital infusion, the drip speed should be slow, and the electrolytes should be supplemented effectively, and then the inflammation should be prevented.

⊙Before the pancreas is completely restored, digestive enzymes such as pancreatic enzymes are added to the food to share the function of the pancreas in advance (decompose chyme). Don't let the pancreas overload and make it slowly repair.

Many parents think that if they are optimistic, there will be no problem. In fact, many people make two mistakes. The first mistake is that when the pancreas has not fully returned to its peak state (only part of it has recovered), the pancreas will overload, such as eating high-fat and other foods; the second mistake is that it stops the medication too early or too quickly, and stops pancreatic enzymes.

Therefore, the detoxification of pancreatic enzymes requires a process. Simply put, if you keep replenishing pancreatic enzyme for about 15-20 days without any symptoms, you will start to halve it. For another 15 days, you will have no symptoms, and then you will have no symptoms and halve it again. This way, you can ensure that you can get back to your peak condition.
