How should two cats stop and prevent a fight?
Raising a cat is afraid of being lonely, and raising two cats is afraid of them fighting. This is a headache for many shovelers. So how should the shovelers prevent this behavior and let them live in peace? Let’s learn together below!
Why do cats fight?
Before learning how to train cats to coexist peacefully, we need to understand why cats fight.
The fight between two domestic cats is often due to the cat's strong "territorial consciousness". In other words, cats have a strong possessive desire for their cages and their own basins and bowls. Therefore, when it feels that other cats want to invade their territory, it will show aggressive behavior. Therefore, cats fight because when the two parties meet, they feel the threats they threaten to themselves.
Therefore, if they are locked in the same cage and forced them to get along with each other, or let them use a litter box together, it will only put more pressure on each other and will not be able to become friends well. The way to completely eliminate their fight is to train them to eliminate hostility towards each other when they meet and gradually develop a favorable impression of each other.
Then, how to train cats to eliminate hostility towards each other when they meet? The training method is very simple, using the familiar principle of "conditioned reflex". The conditioned reflex training plan prepared for you here includes three types of conditioned reflex training. Through the training of triple conditioned reflex, it is easy for two cats to learn to coexist peacefully.
First conditioning reflex
The first conditioning reflex takes advantage of the cat's demand for food. If the cat can imagine the wonderful experience of eating when they meet each other again, then they will naturally feel good when they meet. The first conditioned reflex requires six major steps to complete the training, which is also the main part of our training. Let's take a look step by step.
STEP1
Let the cat have a desire for food first, so you cannot let the cat eat food casually. It must be fed during a fixed period and the total amount of food given is reduced by 20%-30%, which can make it have a higher desire for food. Of course, you can't let your cats be hungry. The remaining 20%-30% of the food can be supplemented by snacks. By the way, cat snacks are a key prop in training, and this is its first wonderful use.
STEP2
Let the two cats avoid meeting each other, and at the same time set their respective ranges of movement at home. There must be a fence between the two cats to block their interactions, fights, etc. You need to set and adjust the position of the fence, the size of the cat's movement range, etc. according to the conditions at home.
STEP3
Feed cats in a specific way. When feeding each meal, the distance between the two plates should be ensured that the cats can see each other, but they will not cause any conflict. Put down the food at the same time and take away both the food and the bowl at the same time. In short, you must ensure that the cat can see the other person when eating and smell the other person's presence. Gradually, the cat will make the other person related to the food.
STEP4
Gradually shorten the distance between the two meal plates. The distance should not be too much each time, five centimeters is enough. Every time you move, you need to feed at that location for many days. Until you make sure that the two cats are not stressed at all while eating, you can narrow the distance of five centimeters.
STEP5
If the cat is not willing to eat after moving, or when there is any anxiety, restlessness, anger, roar, or even attack, it means that the shoveler is too anxious. Please return to the location where there is no problem before training.
STEP6
Short the distance until the two cats can meet together quickly and eat their own food with peace of mind.
Second-level conditioned reflex
In the process of operating the above six major steps, you can complete the training of the second conditioned reflex at the same time. When you are alone with one of the cats, you must learn to ignore the existence of the cat. Only when the two cats meet will you be better about these two cats and pay more attention to them. This will allow the cat to associate the meeting with the other cat with the owner's love, completing the second level of conditioned reflex.
The third conditioned reflex
Finally, it is the key prop - snacks to appear. Please prepare snacks for the two cats. Whenever the two cats approach each other's fence, sprinkle their favorite snacks on both sides. This will make the cat have the desire to "expect to see the other person" because when the other person does not exist. Gradually convince the cat that when the other party appears, it can eat delicious snacks. This is the third conditioned reflex.
The next thing is to observe. When you observe that the interaction between the two cats has stabilized, you can open the fence to let the two cats come into contact. Remember, at this time, you still have to maintain your previous practice. You do not have any special attention or food supply to any of the cats alone. Only when two cats appear together and meet at the same time, you will interact with the two cats at the same time. This interaction includes snacks and playing games.
Over time, under the huge magic of the triple "conditioned reflex", the two cats will gradually "expect to meet and get along with each other". Naturally, there will be no fighting.
